Yes. Eaton acquired Cutler-Hammer in 1978 and the Westinghouse electrical division (including Challenger) in 1994. If you have an older Cutler-Hammer or Challenger panel, Eaton BR breakers are likely compatible. We can inspect your existing panel and confirm compatibility or recommend replacement if needed.

Square D QO is the premium choice with faster trip times (1/60th second vs standard), tin-plated copper bus bars, Visi-Trip indicators, and a lifetime breaker warranty. Eaton BR uses aluminum bus bars and has a standard warranty but costs 30-50% less. Both meet all NEC codes. For budget-conscious projects, BR is excellent; for premium protection, we recommend QO.

Yes. Eaton BR panels handle high-amperage circuits well. A 200A BR panel can accommodate a 50A EV charger circuit alongside typical household loads. Eaton also makes dedicated EV breakers and offers the CH (Cutler-Hammer) line for customers wanting a more premium option with a lifetime warranty.

BR is Eaton's value line; CH (Cutler-Hammer heritage) is their premium residential line. CH panels feature a limited lifetime warranty, while BR has a standard warranty. For most residential applications, BR provides excellent value. For customers who want premium features similar to Square D QO, we can install Eaton CH instead.
